The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) heavily relies on its mineral deposits as its main economic resource, with mining accounting for almost 90% of its total exports. The country is rich in minerals such as copper, cobalt, zinc, cassiterite (which is the main source of metallic tin), manganese, coal, silver, cadmium, germanium (a brittle element used as a semiconductor), gold, palladium (a metallic element used as a catalyst and in alloys), uranium, and platinum.
